Sixth Grade Author Visit January 24.
Author Kate O'Hearn visited AMS on January 24 and spoke to our sixth grade students about her books and her writing process. When students were invited to ask questions, they wanted to know first about her costume: a beautiful long black gown and tall black hat. She explained that it was in the Steampunk style. Her visit to AMS was arranged and sponsored by Barnes & Noble at Wolfchase as part of an American tour for her publisher, Aladdin. Ms. O'Hearn is the author of the Pegasus series and the Valkyrie series. Following her presentation, she signed books for students. Then she had lunch with six AMS students, chosen on the basis of an essay submitted to Mrs. Haggard. The pictures below were made by Mrs. Haggard, with the exception of one photo provided by Barnes & Noble.

Author Nathan Hale visited AMS the afternoon of Nov. 16. Mr. Hale is the author of several graphic histories of the United States and has also illustrated graphic novels by other authors. He spoke to 7th and 8th graders, sharing an exclusive presentation about the Louisiana Purchase and the journey of Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery to explore the new territory. (Mrs. Haggard is working on another option for 6th grade.) You can see from the expressions of the students watching how much they enjoyed his presentation!
